FORREST GUMP with Tom Hanks

IRULE #5-PHYSICAL MOVEMENT IS KEY

“Forrest Gump” like many of Tom’s films, became an instant classic! It is the movie everyone loves. It was such an interesting choice for Tom Hanks following “Philadelphia” and had many Hollywood executives scratching their heads, with one executive even being heard saying, “It will ruin his career.”

Well, Tom Hanks proved all the doubters wrong with another Oscar for Best Actor and also by winning the hearts, once again, of the millions of people worldwide who fell in love with Forrest Gump and “Run Forrest Run!”

Running was certainly a part of the program and Tom developed his own Forrest Gump running style and stride. Running together one day below sea level in Beauford, South Carolina Tom said to me, “Hey Dan, do you want to see Forrest run?”  It was great to see “the Forrest run” that you later saw running on-screen across America.

Running was launched in America when Frank Shorter won the marathon gold medal in the 1972 Olympics. Since that time running, like aerobic dance for women, has been the backbone of physical movement for us. We burn approximately one calorie per minute when sitting and up to 5-7 calories per minute walking. Running can burn even more calories in less time. So, if you just reduce the amount of food you are currently eating and move more with exercise you will be on the right trail to success.
